Nucleus basalis - definition

a nucleus in the basal forebrain that contains the largest collection of acetylcholine neurons in the brain. Neurons from the nucleus basalis project throughout the cerebral cortex. Degeneration of the nucleus basalis is notable in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
