Cerebral cortex - definition

the outermost layer of the brain, the cerebral cortex consists of convoluted gray matter. A multitude of functions are associated with the cerebral cortex. It is thought that the size of the cerebral cortex in humans may help to explain some of our advanced cognitive capabilities as compared to other species.
