Lesion - definition

damage to biological tissue, often due to trauma. In neuroscience, a lesion generally refers to damage to the brain. Lesions played an important role in coming to understand brain functions, as neuroscientists were able to match deficits in behavior with the area of the brain that was lesioned in order to deduce what the function of that brain region was.
