Agnosia - definition

a deficit in processing sensory information that often involves an inability to recognize people or objects or certain characteristics of people or objects. Agnosia may involve only one sense modality and can be very specific in terms of the deficit. For example, in one type of agnosia known as prosopagnosia the patient experiences a deficit in the perception and recognition of faces, but visual processing in general remains intact.
