Neuron doctrine - definition

the view that the nervous system is comprised of discrete cells (neurons), which are separate from one another as opposed to forming a continuous network. Before the work of Santiago Ramon y Cajal in the late 1800s, the reticular theory was the predominant view of the structure of the nervous system.
