Neocortex - definition

the most recently-evolved part and outermost layer of the cerebral cortex, the neocortex comprises the vast majority of the cortex in humans. It is involved in higher-order functions that we typically associate with higher intelligence in humans as compared to other species, such as language, rational thought, etc.
