Local field potential - definition

represents the summed activity of a local population of neurons, recorded with a single electrode in one area of the brain. Local field potentials are activity recorded from electrodes placed within brain tissue, as opposed to those placed on the surface of the brain or outside of the brain (e.g., on the scalp).
