GABA - definition

gamma-aminobutyric acid. GABA is considered the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the nervous system. GABA can decrease the likelihood that action potentials will occur, and thus decreases neuronal signaling. The net effect of GABA, however, is not always inhibitory.
